You Complete Me: Leila Janah's Travel Tote(Source: Leila Janah, Tumi)Ever love a product so much it makes you feel whole? You’re not alone, which is why we’re having our favorite tastemakers spill the must-have items they can’t live without.

Who: Leila Janah, @leila_c
Where: San Francisco, CA
By Day: I'm the founder and CEO of Sama Group, a family of social enterprises—Samasource, Samahope and SamaUSA—that are working to alleviate poverty by connecting the global community to opportunity in sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, the Caribbean and here in the US. We aim to level the playing field for people who do not share equally in the benefits of human progress, and have pioneered new technologies and business methods that harness the power of markets for social good. Sama means "equal" in Sanskrit—this work has become my life’s mission.
By Night: I love adventure. When I'm not working or on the road, you can find me in my favorite spots around the Mission neighborhood of SF, kitesurfing in the Bay or dancing. I love dancing and practiced ballet for ten years, until I realized I wouldn't make it professionally—then I started taking salsa classes. I learned to dance samba in Rio and Salvador when I lived in Brazil. Dancing is my therapy. I also try to meditate every morning and take several two-hour yoga classes a week at my favorite yoga studio, Urban Flow. I’m a passionate person with a lot of energy—mediating helps me to harness this energy and focus it on a particular problem, rather than letting it run amok.
Style: I like mixing it up so I'd say a blend of boho and downtown. For example, I like to pair classic items such as blazers from Zara with my grandmother's old tribal jewelry. My grandmother is one of my greatest influences and wearing her jewelry reminds me of the grit needed to make a difference. She even hitch-hiked around the world in the early 1950s!
You Complete Me: Tumi Small Q-Tote in Black, $235
I can't live without my giant Mary Poppins–worthy Tumi tote bag. Last year, I spent 150 days on the road visiting our locations in Haiti, India, Kenya and Uganda—being close to the field is extremely important to me and keeps me focused on Sama's mission. When I'm on the road, this tote is always at my side. It carries everything from makeup to an emergency sewing kit to my yellow fever card and passport."
