13. 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' by Stephen Chbosky
This tumultuous coming-of-age tale, written in missive form, follows the earnest young Charlie as he enters high school. But this is far from your average story of adolescent angst. We may never even find out Charlie's last name, or other significant details of his identity, but we fall a little more in love with him, his friends, and his story word by word and letter by letter.

Now a major motion picture directed by author Stephen Chbosky, this is one of those extremely rare reads in which the film adaptation is just as good as the movie. And that's saying a lot, coming from someone who considers this one of her all-time favorite books. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is an absolute must-read if you haven't yet torn through it from cover to cover.
