2018 Moments We're Grateful For

Shockingly, the U.S. women's gymnastics team made headlines for more than just gold medals this year. Olympians Aly Raisman, Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, and McKayla Maroney were four of more than 150 women who came forward to say that USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar had sexually abused them. For years.

Just thinking about Aly Raisman's video testimony detailing his abuse of her gives me chills. The bravery with which she came forward as a survivor is truly moving and inspiring; it's something I think about often. And, as someone who resonates deeply with #MeToo and has her own story, like many women — too many women — I had tears in my eyes watching her make her statement. If there's something we can be thankful for in this situation, it's that Nassar has finally (!) been locked behind bars for his crimes. After pleading guilty to seven counts of sexual assault of minors, he is currently serving 40 to 175 years in a Michigan state prison.
