And now the moment we've all been waiting for: the first look at Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) from her upcoming solo movie. And just as we were hoping, she looks like a total badass — shield and dagger and all.
In this first shot, Princess Diana (that's her real name) is accompanied by her family. On Diana's right we have Queen Hippolyta, Diana’s mother (Connie Nielsen). On the far right is General Antiope (Robin Wright) and Menalippe, Antiope’s lieutenant, (Lisa Loven Kongsli) is on the left.
The all-mighty squad is shown on the mythical island of Themyscira, where, at least in the comics, no men are allowed. Director Patty Jenkins explained to Entertainment Weekly that she and her team used islands off the coast of Italy and southern China to create the fantastical place where Wonder Woman was born. Jenkins said the decisions always boiled down to one question: “How would I want to live that’s badass?”
Along with living like a badass, Wonder Woman also dresses like one in the flick. She has toned features, wrist braces, gladiator sandals, and the whole sexy/strong bit. Jenkins said: “I, as a woman, want Wonder Woman to be hot as hell, fight badass, and look great at the same time – the same way men want Superman to have huge pecs and an impractically big body. That makes them feel like the hero they want to be. And my hero, in my head, has really long legs.”
