5 Rom-Coms Your Boyfriend Will Actually Want to Watch With You
He'll love these just as much as you do.
It's movie night! Time to pop some popcorn and settle in with your beloved beau. But what to watch? You're a fan of the lovey-dovey rom-coms and he's well... not. We have to perfect compromise to save your evening. Here are five rom-coms that perfectly balance romance and comedy and won't make him cringe:
1. Celeste & Jesse Forever
This is not your mother's romantic comedy. Celeste and Jesse are best friends who jump into marriage, and later realize it's not all it's cracked up to be. They divorce and try to maintain their friendship, while dating other people. They are played by the dynamic, funny duo of Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg. Your boyfriend will love the unique approach to relationships and the dry humor that you can always expect from Jones and Samberg.
2. Ruby Sparks
Paul Dano plays a writer who pens himself a fictional love interest, Ruby Sparks. She comes to life, but their love story is far from perfect. This stunning film is centered on an imaginary girl, but brings out real-life, relatable, relationship struggles. Your boyfriend can expect the unexpected with this romantic dramedy.
3. About Time
This movie may feature rom-com queen Rachel McAdams, but it totally unique to the genre. The film actually focuses on her male counterpart, the charming Domhnall Gleeson (Bill Weasley, anyone) who discovers that he can travel in time. He uses this ability to his advantage, but also learns there are consequences to such power. This film is the perfect balance of romance, comedy, and fantasy which your boyfriend is sure to enjoy. Plus it features the talented Bill Nighy, as Gleeson's father.
4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Is your boyfriend a fan of funny-man, Jim Carrey? Well this role is Carey at his dramatic-best. He plays one half of a romantic couple (his leading lady is the ever wonderful, Kate Winslet) who decide to erase their relationship from their memories. Will they be able to find love together a second time? This beautiful story will remind you and your boyfriend why your relationship is important, with any sappiness.
5. 500 Days of Summer
This nontraditional love story, tracks the relationship of Tom and Summer (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel) from the moment they meet and onward. However, the story line takes a nonlinear approach, and the audience views the relationship in selective days from Tom's point of view. The cast is lovable, the story's unique, the attention to detail is spectacular, and there's a departure from the traditional fairy tale that can be seen with so many rom-coms.
