Brand Spotlight: TROA

Brand Spotlight: TROA(Source: TROA; Cigarette Mid-Rise, $215)These days, designer denim lines are a dime a dozen. But how many can say their baby blues are made from mulberry bark? That honor belongs to TROA, a new jeans label that employs a centuries-old Korean papermaking technique to turn bark into luxury denim. (Bewildered? We were too until we checked out the beautiful explanatory video on TROA’s website).

Brand Spotlight: TROA(Source: TROA; Skinny Low Rise in Baby Pink, $215; Bootcut Mid Rise in Navy Blue, $225; Crosby Mid Rise in Rose Gold, $275)The resulting super-soft “hanjisa” fabric is hand-dyed with organic vegetal-based substances (indigo for blues, oriental brush ink for black) in a process that uses less than one percent of the water used to create traditional denim. And while yes, we love its eco-friendly attributes (it is Earth Month, after all), what we’re really crazy for is the cool cuts ($215–$275) and inventive light washes, including white, rose gold, and baby pink.
