To some people, working out means wearing a baggy tee with old gym shorts. We, however, think it's another opportunity to express your personal style. When you look good, you feel good, and studies have even shown that what you wear can directly affect your performance. Hawaii-based brand Mahiku Activewear understands that fitness should be fun and offers designs that reflect that ethos.

Founder Ehiku Rademacher drew inspiration from her lifelong love of water sports—she was just a toddler when she had her first surfing experience. Eventually, Rademacher took up competitive stand-up paddleboarding (SUP for short) and recognized a need for specialized activewear in the sport. She teamed up with her husband Ingo, also a SUP athlete, and friend Mahealani Gambill, an athlete and designer, to launch Mahiku in 2012.

The designs aren't reserved for the water only—you could easily wear any of the items on a run, doing yoga or at a gym. Expect vibrant colors and crazy prints, usually at the same time. Plus, select items even have UPF protection to save your skin while you workout under the sun. Some of our picks below include low-slung yellow and polkadot capri leggings ($75), blue-and-teal long leggings ($84) and pink printed shorts ($45).
