Actress Meghan Markle Tells Us How to Choose a Power Outfit
We got the chance to talk to 'Suits' power player Meghan Markle about how to pull off your most confident style ever.
If there's anyone who knows their stuff when it comes to styling fashion-forward 'fits that nonetheless exude easy confidence, it's Suits star Meghan Markle. Best known for her role as Rachel Zane on the show, it's pretty clear the talented actress is the real deal. Not to mention she's also become a staple in the legion of celebs who have taken to the Internet to share their insights on healthy living.
Meghan takes The Tig (quite aptly named after a bottle of Tignanello wine) to the next level, however, detailing it as "a hub for the discerning palate – those with a hunger for food, travel, fashion & beauty." It's refreshing to see the actress has carved out a space in which she wholeheartedly keeps it light, fresh, and real – and it's clear that the site has officially put Meghan on the map as a rising celebrity-lifestyle star.
So when I got the chance to speak to her, I didn't hesitate to ask how she pulls off her best power styling tips. She told me how to choose the ultimate power outfit, as well as what products and trends she just can't live without.
I read on your website, The Tig, that you’ve learned to brave extreme frigid temperatures from shooting Suits in Toronto.
How do you pull off chic winter style in the extreme cold?
It's about layering great tactile textures that feel luxe. That's my trick. Because let's be honest – when it's bitter cold you bundle up, keep your head down and just get from door to door without freezing.
When it's a little more forgiving weather-wise, I stick with a [monochromatic] silhouette, and wearing black is always safe. Black leather leggings, winter boots, a cozy cashmere sweater and a thick scarf, plus a killer coat. Accessorize with a red lip and amazing sunglasses.
What’s your go-to outfit of choice, or “power outfit” – one that makes you feel the most confident?
Cropped distressed skinny jeans, a white V-neck T-shirt and my classic Stella blazer with amazing pumps; usually gianvito Rossi or Aquazurra. It makes me feel the most powerful because it's a look that I feel comfortable in. It feels like me. And stilettos just have a way of making me feel a little extra bad ass.
Best way to take your outfit from day to night?
Heels and a strong lip. Boom.
Favorite new winter fashion trend?
Faux shearling jackets – so cozy and chic! But make sure it's fake fur! There is nothing cool about abusing animals to try to look chic and drape yourself in fur.
How do you feel about the skinny jean vs. wide-leg? Are you a fan of bell bottoms?
I love both but I happen to be very high-waisted so flares make my legs look insanely long; not a bad thing, but I prefer a more proportional silhouette for my body. I will always be a skinny jean gal, but the boho '70s vibe sneaks its way into my closet with a few key pieces – bell bottom jeans being one of them.
What does having beauty inside and out mean to you?
Being kind, empowering other women, and knowing that as fun as fashion and all of the other external beauty is, it's just playing dress up. Your value is not based on a handbag you carry or the shoes you're wearing – it's unquestionably based on how you treat others. That's a reflection of your true beauty.
At Livingly, we strive to "live life beautifully." What does living beautifully mean to you?
It means living life fully, with a sense of humor, a kind heart, and an adventurous spirit. We only get one shot at this life – make it count!
Be sure to watch the Season 5 finale of Suits, airing Wednesday night at 10PM EST on USA.
