Emilia Clarke's Subtle Nod to Daenerys On The Red Carpet Will Give You All The Feels
Her look was straight *fire*.
She may be the Mother of Dragons, but at last night's final Game of Thrones premiere (BRB, crying), Emilia Clarke reigned the red carpet in a dreamy sheer Valentino gown she paired with a hairstyle fit for a queen. The British actress, who recently revealed she suffered two brain aneurysms, donned an intricate braided updo that not only looked fierce, but was also inspired by the badass character she plays on the iconic show: Daenerys Targaryen herself.
Emilia's edgy 'do was created by her longtime hairstylist, Jenny Choi, who shared a closer look at the braid on an Instagram post. Choi also revealed how Clarke's hairstyle honors the beloved character, "I wanted to incorporate a braid as a nod to Daenerys Targaryen the queen of dragons."
Clarke is no stranger to dramatic hair changes. In the past few years, the star has gone from brunette to platinum blonde and back, always leaving us in anticipation of what she'll do next with her famous locks. The Emmy-nominated actress has been quite vocal about her feelings when it comes to her hair, telling Vanity Fair about her decision to adapt Khaleesi's signature hue: "I got to a point where I said I just want to look in the mirror and see something different. So I was just like, ‘F*ck it, it’s the last season. I’m going to dye my hair blonde.'"
The star has since returned to her roots, and also shared with Harper's Bazaar UK the reason she cut her hair into a trendy lob was because of the damage caused by bleaching her tresses. "Yes, it is quite short – because my hair was, like, dying! So I’ve cut it a little bit shorter. It’s almost the shortest it’s been. I’m honestly trying to grow out the blonde, because it’s just killed my hair, and I miss having nice hair! I do like the length but I wish my hair was longer."
While it's bittersweet this is the last time we'll see Emilia on the red carpet for Game of Thrones, we can't wait to see what's in store for the talented actress — and all the stunning looks she'll no doubt continue to slay in. In the meantime, we'll be obsessing over her sweet tribute to Daenerys and binge-watching the HBO show until it returns on April 14.
