The Surprising Trend Gina Rodriguez Rocked to the Oscars
For the grand finale of award shows, the Golden Globe winner chose to make an unexpected fashion statement.
For an up-and-coming actress, starting out on your red carpet journey can be a daunting task. While Gina Rodriguez is still experimenting with her own formal style, so far flaunting designs by Nha Khanh, Badgley Mischka and Christos Costarellos, she has nailed looking lovely this season. Although New York Fashion Week and the preceding Paris Couture Week last month have offered us an endless playground of possibilities for actresses, the Jane the Virgin star opted for a more sustainable approach: with eco-friendly evening wear.
Following in the footsteps of Olga Kurylenko and Kellan Lutz, Rodriguez and American Sniper actor Jake McDorman were selected to represent Suzy Amis Cameron's Red Carpet Green Dress campaign. Her high-neck belted gown was designed by this year's contest winner Manon Gabard, a fashion student in Paris who specializes in new couture. The rich blue backless dress was inspired by jellyfish, utilizing all-natural 100 percent certified peace silk and environmentally-conscious production methods, including low-impact dye. The star completed her elegant ensemble with vintage Neil Lane jewelry, a black embellished Edie Parker clutch, matching Jimmy Choo sandals and a rare updo.
