Editor's Pick: The Face Sponge That Puts Washcloths to Shame
This little wonder is the skincare tool you never knew you needed.
Working at a fashion and beauty site has some considerable perks—one of which is access to the most gloriously random products to grace the beauty market. That combined with my love of product hoarding has led to a very stacked medicine cabinet at home. I've got odd potions and lotions of all types but my favorite find of late is a small sponge.
Made of the fibers of the Konjac root (a plant that is grown mainly in Asia), Konjac sponges have been trickling into the beauty market for a year or so now. While they are hard as rocks when dry, they transform and become ultra soft and rubbery when doused with warm water. Because Konjac fibers are so soft, they're much gentler than a washcloth for cleansing delicate facial skin. Plus, the squishy, pliable sponge molds easily to the contours of your face. It also takes much less cleanser to form a lather on a Konjac sponge, which is a major bonus for those of us who fly through product much too quickly.
I've tried several Konjac sponges only to return (every single time) to the Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge ($15). I love that Boscia's sponge is infused with other skin-saving ingredients such as dirt-zapping charcoal or hydrating clay. I use my Konjac sponge daily and it leaves my skin soft and thoroughly cleansed. After using the sponge, you simply wring it out and hang it up to dry—a far superior method to one-use washcloths and lots of dirty laundry.
My favorite of Boscia's offerings is the bamboo charcoal. If you want to give each variation a try, consider the brand's travel pack, which contains three different types of sponges ($16).
