Current Obsession: Solid & Striped Swimwear

Current Obsession: Solid & Striped Swimwear(Source: Solid & Striped Morgan Top, $70; and Morgan Bottom, $70)When it comes to selecting swimwear, I have an informal rule: if I wouldn't wear a dress version of the bikini, the style is not for me. Unfortunately, this stick-to-your-style directive eliminates about three-quarters of the season's current swimwear offerings, which are heavy on the fringe, technicolor flutters and other trendier-than-thou flourishes. So what's a classic-meets-preppy beach bunny to do?

Answer: head over to Solid & Striped, and stock up on the label's minimalist-chic designs. After three seasons of turning out perfect swim trunks for men and boys, the brand is now offering up its first women's collection, and it's exactly what its moniker suggests: full of simple, sleek suits of the solid and striped variety.

With mix-and-match tops ($70–$80) and bottoms ($70–$80), and a bevvy of one pieces ($140–$150) boasting timeless, pared-down silhouettes, it's easy to imagine them as the swimwear equivalent of your favorite little black dress. (Or little white dress. Or little nautical striped dress.)

I'm personally nuts for the oh-so-simple Morgan top ($70), which comes in eight low-key colorways and looks strikingly like the perfect no-frills tops Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz are always flaunting at the beach.
