Dior Fires John Galliano Over Anti-Semitic Rants, Fashion World ReactsJohn Galliano (Photo Agency) On Monday, a damning video of designer John Galliano rambling about his love of Hitler made its way onto the Internet, thanks to a witness with a camera phone and a UK tabloid. On Tuesday, storied French fashion house Dior announced that it would dismiss Galliano, the brand's chief designer since 1996.

The dismissal comes less than a week after Galliano was arrested in Paris over an alleged anti-Semitic assault at a trendy Paris bar.

The reactions to Galliano's video tirade have ranged from shock to pity. Natalie Portman, the face of Miss Dior Chérie perfume, announced that she would no longer be associated with Galliano, stating, "I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano's comments that surfaced [Monday]."

Vogue
Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani blogged that the video recording looked suspiciously like a set-up, while designer Giorgio Armani expressed sympathy for the designer, noting his dismay that Galliano had been videotaped in secret.

Dior's Fall 2011 presentation is planned for March 4. Rest assured that the brand's public relations crisis management teams are hard at work figuring out how to forge ahead.
