Oprah Just because Oprah's daytime show is officially off the air, doesn't mean her influence is any less powerful. She got the very private Tom Ford to agree to be filmed for a one-hour documentary called Visionaries: Tom Ford, the first in a series that'll include Lady Gaga, James Cameron, Annie Leibovitz and more. Tom even says at one point, "You know I've never let anyone film me like this before."
The show follows Tom from the debut of his womenswear line last fall to his recent boutique opening. It showcases a side of Tom never seen before as he openly discusses his past, his depression and the state of fashion today. It's real and raw, a must-see for fashion lovers. Here are some choice quotes from the film:
On leaving Gucci:
I remember the day I left Gucci. My last day which was in April. I came home, pulled all the drapes, and went to sleep. I woke up the next morning and looked at my calendar. It was usually so full, and there was just nothing. I didn't know who I was, I didn't know what i was supposed to be.
On working in the fashion industry: I have, sometimes, mixed feelings about what we do because we convince people they're not perfect enough. We promote materialism, which is ultimately not the thing that brings you happiness in the world.
On being relevant in fashion:
Moving fashion forward used to be one of my chief goals, it's not necessarily anymore. Fashion needs to change when life changes. You only need to move fashion forward when there's a reason to move fashion forward. I know one day I'll be irrelevant. No matter how hard you try, there is a cultural moment, but eventually that window's gone, your time on Earth is finished, and you might as well leave.
Visionaires: Tom Ford premieres on Oprah's OWN network on June 24 at 10pm. We're definitely tuning in, are you?
