Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor passed away early Wednesday morning, she was 79. When remembering Elizabeth, many talk of her staggering breadth of work, from National Velvet to her Oscar winning performance in Butterfield 8. Or, they bring up her big heart and numerous philanthropy efforts. But many glaze over Elizabeth's pioneering efforts in the fragrance industry. Yes, the ubiquitous celebrity fragrance was started by none other than Dame Liz Taylor.
Her fragrances still rank among the top selling mass market fragrances of today. Elizabeth's first scent Passion, was released in 1988 and became an overnight success. But it was her second scent White Diamond, named after her well-known love of the shiny stone, that became one of the top selling fragrances of all time. Elizabeth was passionate about perfume, and once said:
I think [perfume] is more than just an accessory for a woman. It’s part of her aura. I wear it even when I’m alone.
Elizabeth will be greatly missed. Her talent, beauty and generosity are unrivaled.
