Nin perfected the art of erotica in an era where it was still assumed women didn't have sexual fantasies or sexual desires. Her dairies, along with her essays, show a woman who strongly embraced her sexuality and made zero apologies for it. She also had a hot and heavy affair with fellow writer Henry Miller.
