With the publication of Friedan's book, The Feminine Mystique, the second-wave of feminism was born. The book didn't just break ground in regards to gender equality but pointed out something that had men of the day shaking in their boots: some women were profoundly dissatisfied in their roles of wife and mothers and — wait for it — actually wanted more out of life.
