1. Write Resolutions Together
Sharing your resolutions is like sharing your goals for the new year. You'll help keep each other on track. One year, my SO and I wrote a few resolutions for each other. Obviously, nothing in the critical lose weight realm, but rather encouraging the other to do things they love. Read a book each month, paint every week, sign up for that race or take a new class.
2. Start a Joy Jar
I came across this idea before and definitely plan to implement it this year. Basically, you find a (pretty) jar and anytime something special happens, big or small, you write it down and put it inside. Promotion? New pet? Trip to Disneyland? In the jar. Then, come next December, you can open it and reflect on the highlights of the past year together.
3. Ditch the Parties for Romance
Forget the bars and clubs, instead dress up for a nice dinner on New Year's Eve. Go somewhere fancy or cook a meal at home with candlelight and music.
4. Take Your Own "Family" Photos
Set up a tripod and snap some pics just the two of you. Visit your favorite places and make a day of it or pose in front of your fireplace with the pup. It's fun, it's free and it guarantees cute pictures together from the year.
5. Make One New Year Plan Official
Book tickets to a concert, a comedy show, Australia! Sign up for a marathon or make reservations for a trip. Give yourselves something specific to look forward to doing together—set it in stone.
