Country Music's Eric Paslay Answers Our 4 Burning Questions Before the Grammys
'The Driver' singer fills us in on what he's most looking forward to at this year's Grammy Awards and what it was like being nominated alongside Dierks Bentley and Charles Kelley.
Country swooner Eric Paslay, best known to fans as a song-writer, is finally nominated for his own performance — alongside country music big-wigs Dierks Bentley and Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum — for 'Best Country Duo/Group Performance' for The Driver.
In case you're not familiar with Paslay, his debut album's lead single "Friday Night" reached the number one spot and let fans know he has arrived as an artist in his own right. He says, "I’ll sing ‘I want to be your...’ and I’ll point to the crowd and they’ll go ‘Friday Night!’ That’s one of those moments that every kid dreams about – singing a song and the crowd knows it so well that they sing it back to you. You get to sing it together. I’m glad I’m getting to experience that as a performer."
We caught up with Eric as he preps for his first Grammy Awards nominated as a performer:
For this year's Grammy Awards is there a particular performance you're looking forward to most or any artist you are excited to meet that you haven't met yet?
EP: I always love the Grammy's because of the performances. You never know what magic moments might happen, but I think Little Big Town's "Girl Crush" will be amazing and Chris Stapleton's tribute to BBKing should be mind blowing too! Shoot I'd like to meet every nominee and I've always wanted to meet Bono, maybe next year!
Your song The Driver with Dierks Bentley and Charles Kelly is nominated for 'Best Country Duo/Group Performance.' How did it feel when you found out you guys were nominated?
EP: When I found out I was nominated for a Grammy for being in a group I was a little confused! Ha. I woke up in Vegas after a show to find my phone full of congratulations messages and it felt AWESOME! Totally honored to be nominated this time as a performer and thrilled its with two guys I love.
What was it like working with Charles Kelley and Dierks Bentley? Have you guys discussed a speech-strategy if you win?
EP: It's been awesome working with Charles and Dierks on The Driver. We've performed it quiet a few times and it's always fun seeing them and moving fans with this song. We haven't discussed what speech we will give, but I know I will be the only one attending, so I might have to say something about Charles Kelley and Dierks Bentley riding my coat tails! Ha!
At Livingly, we Live Life Beautifully. What do you think makes a woman beautiful?
EP: I think what makes a woman beautiful is graceful confidence. To be confident in who she is and what she does but kind every step of the way. That's what makes a beautiful woman, just like my wife!
What a lucky lady Mrs. Paslay is!
