Mad Men isn't just a success on the boob tube and at the Emmys—it's also a runaway hit on the selling floor. Remember Banana Republic's Mad Men-inspired collections from fall 2011 and spring 2012? Well, turns out they were so popular that the clothing chain has decided to bring the theme back for a third installment, which is set to launch in spring 2013.
"With a new era of fashion inspiration, the design process was exciting for us and allowed for lots of creativity, which is completely visible in the end result," BR Creative Director and EVP Simon Kneen said. "We took Janie's [Bryant, Mad Men's costume designer] mod inspiration for the costumes on-screen and translated it in a way that today's Don or Megan will aspire to wear."
According to the news release, the spring 2013 collection will be more mod and less "Camelot." The collection "incorporates fresh bold prints, bright colors and new silhouettes." The key inspirationed named? Joan's body-skimming pieces, Megan's youthful dresses—her love of prints and brights—and Peggy's quirky-cool matchy-matchy accessories.
"In my work with Simon for the Banana Republic Mad Men spring 2013 collection, the spirit and fashion-forward thinking we see on-screen in Megan was really inspirational for the capsule," Bryant said.
