11. Janet Leigh's Extravagant Oscar Dress
Janet Leigh showed up shimmering like a siren to the 1960 Oscars, with her husband, fellow actor Tony Curtis, at her side. Leigh captured the Space Race-inspired fashions of the 1960s with her Jetsons-inspired frock (just look at the upturned collar, angled cap sleeves, and angular silhouette!)

In a 1960 interview with the Daily News prior to the event, Leigh told the publication that she would be wearing a "diamond" sheath that was created by the award-winning designer, Edith Head. "The gown, commissioned by Janet's husband, Tony Curtis, has been six months in the making and weighs 21 pounds!" Daily News revealed. "It's made of nude colored chiffon to which are crocheted 186,000 imported silver-lined bugle beads which give a solid diamond effect." While Leigh didn't want to reveal how much the dress cost, she did say that "it might easily be traded in for a Cadillac."
