Hollywood's Most Daring Vintage Fashion Moments

3. Josephine Baker's Banana Skirt
Ernest Hemingway famously said that Josephine Baker was the “most sensational woman anybody ever saw. Or ever will.” And for good reason. The American actor and singer found tremendous success in Paris, where she brought the house down in the famous cabaret music hall Folies-Bergère wearing only a "skirt" of 16 rubber bananas. The outfit would later become synonymous with the Golden Age actor, who would become the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture. The skirt launched her career and made her Europe's most famous entertainer for decades to come.
