Katy Perry's French Twist (Getty Images) Katy Perry managed to style this voluminous updo without using any extra hair. She's worn French twists before, but her locks were much longer. She was able to create her cool look even though she's currently sporting a chic bob only a little longer than jaw-length.
To duplicate her 'do, all you'll need are a few bobby pins, perhaps some styling paste or molding mud and lots of hairspray. To begin, backcomb hair over the entire head, concentrating your efforts along the front hairline and through the crown.
Next, after smoothing on a product like KMS Molding Paste to create pliability, sweep back tresses while maintaing as much volume on top as possible, and pull hair back tightly at the temples and along the back hairline. Sweep hair in the back over to one side and while holding the hair with one hand, use the other hand to insert bobby pins in a vertical line from the nape of the neck to the crown.
Then, using a lot of tension, twist hair vertically over the bobby pins. With shorter tresses, you may need to create the twist in sections (as Katy did). Once the twist has been created, insert bobby pins or u-shaped hair pins horizontally, close to the scalp. Loose ends at the top of the twist can be tucked and pinned into place. Finish the style with lots of maximum hold hairspray.
