Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg (Getty)Fashion industry icon Diane von Furstenberg has promised half her fortune to the Giving Pledge, an initiative founded by billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett that encourages the US' wealthiest people to make serious donations.
The legendary fashion designer's pledge is not legally binding, nor is it known where she plans to allocate her undoubtedly sizeable donation. As the president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, however, she's made support for emerging designers a priority.
Von Furstenberg's husband, media titan Barry Diller, has also promised to donate a large portion of his wealth to philanthropic efforts, as have director George Lucas and New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.
