(Nevermind Anna Wintour's affinity for tennis or the luxe ski set in Gstaad.) Hermès, of course, launched as a haute harness shop in 1837, and Gucci has paid homage to the equestrian aristocracy with horsebit details since 1921. Now, designer Reem Acra is also horsing around.
Having penned her signature to a three-year contract with FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale), Ms. Acra is the newest sponsor of the Western European League and FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final, which opens its 26th season in Denmark in October 2010.
The announcement, made by FEI President HRH Princess Haya, was fitting: Ms. Acra is known to be the designer of choice among international royals—as well as US highnesses including Angelina Jolie, Kristin Cavallari and Perrey Reeves. Hence the theme for Reem Acra's Spring 2011 collection—the American Princess.
