Chatting with Giambattista Valli at Tuesday night's San Francisco Ballet Auxilliary fashion show, the designer let us in on some big news: Valli will soon make his haute couture debut!
Then on Wednesday, it was announced officially that the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture has in fact accepted Valli into its storied ranks. It's notoriously difficult to get in, as designers have to prove not only design talent, but a mastery of the skills required to produce garments up to their standards.
Giambattista will be presenting his first collection during the fall couture season this July. It seems like a lot of pressure and a short time frame in which to complete a collection, but Giambattista told us he's not nervous at all. In fact, he seemed downright cheery about the entire thing and laughed:
Not at all. Do I look like somebody [who would be nervous]? I can be nervous for stupid things—for stupid things I can get so nervous. But then when there is like major things, important things, I'm totally calm. I'm totally focused.
After getting up close and personal with Giambattista's garments, and seeing the impeccable quality and design, we can't wait to see his couture collection!
