Carine Roitfeld Resigns From French 'Vogue' After 10 YearsCarine Roitfeld (Getty) Carine Roitfeld says she's ready to try something new after 10 years at the helm of French Vogue.

The fashion industry icon announced her resignation Friday, saying she will leave the magazine at the end of January. She told the New York Times' Cathy Horyn, "It's 10 years that I'm editor of the magazine. I think it's time to do something different."

Roitfeld insists her resignation is simply a matter of wanting to go out on top. "When everything is good, maybe I think it's time to do something else." She says she does not know what she'll do next, although there's already speculation that she will work with Tom Ford on his just-launched women's wear line.

Roitfeld, a former model, began her editorial career as a writer and, later, a stylist for French ELLE. After years of collaboration with photographer Mario Testino, she eventually became a consultant and muse for Tom Ford at both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, before joining French Vogue in 2001.
