Madge Cave Syers
If you love watching figure skating at the Olympics, you can thank Madge Cave Syers for paving the way for women to compete. An English figure skater, she was the first woman to compete in an Olympic figure skating event in 1902, when she found a loophole that didn't specify the gender of who could and couldn't compete.
The only woman competing against all men, she took home silver and caused the Olympics to create a women's category for the upcoming 1908 games.
