I first read Janet Fitch’s poetic murder masterpiece, White Oleander, when I was a teenager. And though the film adaption never quite caught on the way the cult classic novel did, Fitch’s elegant prose sending it flying off of bookshelves, I fell in love with so many elements of the primal storyline: the California backdrop, the twisted mother-daughter dynamic, and most definitively the strong female characters around which the story revolved.
