A Smart (and Adorable) Way to Keep Your Toddler Busy While You Travel
Meet Wandertots, a new brand for busy moms.
As any mom knows, keeping the little ones occupied is no easy task. And there are many times—hopping on a plane, attending a wedding—you'd desperately like to keep your child amused. Enter Wandertots, pre-made busy bags for your toddler. They're as genius as you'd hope: eclectic collections of coloring books, stickers, figurines, all individually wrapped in a cute canvas bag. Basically, a dream entertainment kit for whatever journey you might be taking.
I spoke with founder (and mother) Olivia O'bryon Mackey about the product, her inspiration behind it and the brand's mission.
Where did the Wandertots idea originate?
Wandertots originated from my fear of flying with my toddler for the first time. I knew I needed to keep her entertained, but I wasn't sure how. After friends suggested I wrap small gifts for her to open throughout the flight, I decided to give it a shot. I searched the web for a pre-made busy bag, but none existed. Instead I found myself spending an inordinate amount of my pre-travel time scouring stores for small goodies and wrapping them myself. Thankfully, the bag was a success! My daughter did a fantastic job throughout nearly twelve hours of flight time. She loved the bags. That's when it hit me, other parents would probably appreciate pre-made bags as well.
What makes these bags particularly engaging?
Wandertots bags are made to save families time. Preparing for travel or outings with little people is hectic enough without also having to also worry about gathering an elaborate collection of items to keep children occupied. Our bags are designed to include many items to entertain young children that can be used in practically any setting, including airplanes, restaurants, waiting rooms, and relative's homes. The contents of our bags are also selected to encourage interaction between caregivers and children, which we hope will help make outings more memorable for everyone.
What's been the most rewarding part of developing Wandertots?
The most rewarding part of developing Wandertots has been connecting with my inner child. As a teacher, I spend a lot of time with young people and get a chance to observe what they enjoy. In selecting items for our bags, I not only think about what my students would like, but I also think about what I enjoyed as a child and what I would enjoy sharing with the children in my life.
What can customers look forward to next in future Wandertots bags?
As we move into 2016, we're on a mission to find even more fun goodies to include in our busy bags. We're also looking forward to introducing more travel-friendly T-shirts that will bring a smile to everyone's faces.
Does Wandertots have a mission or motto?
Keeping little travelers busy!
