This is the year of Louise Roe. The television presenter and fashion journalist—she's the fashion editor-at-large at Glamour magazine—who burst onto mainstream America's small screens as a go-getter on MTV's The City, co-hosted the pre-Oscars telecast on ABC, interviewed fellow celebrities on the red carpet at the MTV Movie Awards, and launched a clothing collection with HSN.

We sat down with Louise to find out: What's the secret to her success? And how does she always look so amazing?

StyleBistro: We love seeing you on the red carpet—both attending events and interviewing celebs. What's the difference between choosing a dress to walk the red carpet and choosing a dress to work an event?

Louise Roe: That's a good question! When I'm hosting, I'm standing there for a few hours so being comfortable is more important—i.e. not mega-tight corsets or pinchy heels. If I'm attending, I'll take more risks with something architectural or perhaps something shorter and whimsical.

StyleBistro: What are some specific design details you look for in each situation?

Louise: A softer fabric for hosting is more comfy, plus slightly lower heels—otherwise I tend to tower over the celebrities I'm interviewing.

StyleBistro: Your style is really colorful and eclectic—and you never shy away from statement jewelry or accessories! What's the trick to pulling an outfit together and making it work with such a diverse wardrobe?

Louise: Thank you! I always plan a look by starting with the shoe. Those are my favorite part of any outfit—a bright, high heel is my starting block. Then I'll always mix prints and color with warm neutrals—not with black or whites—I think It looks more chic.

StyleBistro: What's one garment or look you'd never be caught dead in?

Louise: A pair of rhinestone-encrusted jeans, or a top with my bra-straps peeking out purposefully. I think that looks tacky.

StyleBistro: You travel tons—between your home in LA, media appearances in New York, and shooting your show, Plain Jane, all over the world. What are some of the must-have pieces in your suitcase—things that you can't live without this season?

Louise: I know! Sometimes I feel like I live in airports. A cashmere beanie by Madeleine Thompson, because I freeze on flights and this keeps me warm. A lavender-infused velvet eyemask from Kitson, a loose maxi dress from Intermix, leopard print flats from ShoeMint, Hope in a Jar face cream by Philosophy, and Jergenscocoa butter because my skin always dries out traveling.

StyleBistro: Let's talk about your work with HSN. How did that collaboration come about?

Louise: I met with HSN in New York a few fashion weeks ago, and as soon as the lady who works there walked in, we clicked. She was head-to-toe dressed in my favorite 70s chic style, and I explained my idea to dress women by educating them about body shape, and how to hide the wobbly bits and emphasize the bits you like.

I had a very clear aesthetic and theme behind it, and we started on mood boards right away. I love the process and love going on live TV to explain the collection—it really brings it to life.

StyleBistro: We've heard your HSN collection does really well. What sort of feedback have you gotten from women who buy your clothes?

Louise: The cool thing is HSN is very interactive, so women call in as they're buying, or tweet and Facebook me questions. The main comment is that they love the bright prints, and also what the cut does to the shape of their body. It's designed to be very flattering.

StyleBistro: We've noticed you have an amazing shoe collection! What are some of your favorite shoe brands?

Louise: I love designing shoes—it is the proverbial dream come true! I love Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, Zara, and Shoemint.

StyleBistro: What about some of your other accessories—what is the most meaningful piece of jewelry you have?

Louise: I have a pendant that was my mum's in the 1970s when she lived in Rio—it's a slice of rock and really beachy, boho.

StyleBistro: What are some upcoming projects we can look forward to seeing you in?

Louise: There's a big one coming up in America that I'll tell you more about as soon as I'm allowed! I'm also hosting the VMA red carpet for MTV International in september—I can't wait!
