You've probably heard of the keto diet before, but do you actually know what it is? The ketogenic diet consists of low-carb, high-fat (healthy fats!), and moderate protein meals that are aimed at helping your body reach a metabolic state known as ketosis. 

Let me explain. When you eat a high-carb diet you produce glucose, which is then what your body uses for energy. With a low-carb diet, you no longer produce adequate glucose and your body instead relies on fat for energy, thus breaking down and burning more fat. This, for the purpose of simplicity, is ketosis.
