Sips and Tips: The Peppermint Mocha Espresso Martini and The Chocolate Swirl Mani

Start 2015 off the right way with this decadent take on a martini and a matching swirled mani.

We here at StyleBistro are big proponents of enjoying the little things in life—from a tasty treat to a fresh manicure. So we decided to pair two of our favorite indulgences for a series we're calling Sips and Tips. In these deliciously fun articles, we'll share with you a recipe for one of our favorite drinks of the moment, as well as a manicure inspired by the beverage of choice. Think of it as just another way to incorporate personal style into every aspect of your life.

We're ready to tackle 2015 head on with a delicious and refreshing Peppermint Mocha Espresso Martini from our friends at Kahlúa. This new take on a martini is sure to please any caffeine addict. To complement this decadent drink, we called in Danielle Candido for Gelish, to create a chocolate swirl manicure. Get both the recipe and DIY manicure below, then get toasting!

The Sip: Peppermint Mocha Espresso Martini

Ingredients:

One part Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha

One and one half parts Absolut Vodka

One part fresh espresso

Dash of simple syrup

Directions:

Fill a martini glass full with ice and water. Fill a shaker with ice, add ingredients and shake. Empty the ice and water from the chilled glass and strain into the martini glass.

The Tip: The Chocolate Swirl Manicure

Tools:

Basecoat

Gelish Taupe Model gel nail polish ($13)

Gelish Strut Your Stuff gel nail polish ($13)

Striping brush

Gelish Arctic Freeze gel nail polish ($13)

Fine grade glitter in white 

Gelish LED Curing Lamp ($63)

Directions:

Apply the basecoat prior to polish. Apply two coats of Gelish in Taupe Model. Apply topcoat to the non-accent nails. Leave the desired accent nail free from topcoat and cure. Use the thin gel striping brush to dip into the Gelish Strut Your Stuff shade. Carefully swirl in desired pattern. Apply a topcoat and cure. To create the frosted effect at the tip, use a striping brush to paint scalloped edges along the tip. We used Gelish in Arctic Freeze to get the look. Next apply white acrylic powder or fine grade glitter to the tip. Tap off the excess and cure. Do not apply any additional topcoat to maintain the detail and texture on the accent nail.
