StyleBistro: What are your three must-haves at New York Fashion Week this September?

Cassady Nordeen: My iPhone—I'll use it for taking pictures of standout looks, sending work emails while I'm out of the office, and keeping track of my schedule.

A bag that fits what I need without giving me major back issues; some people can just carry a cute little mini bag, but I still haven't learned the art of traveling light.

A great statement necklace. It's such an easy way to make an outfit your own.

SB: What shoes are you wearing for fashion week?

CN: I have a surprisingly comfy pair of ankle-strap stiletto sandals that I can last all day in. I will also probably go with a heeled bootie and a wedge, since these styles tend to be a painless way to add height. And, yes, I will be stashing back-up flats (hence the big bag!).

SB: How do you pick your outfits for fashion week?

CN: A lot of people plan their outfits weeks ahead of time, but I'm definitely a bit more arbitrary when it comes to styling myself. My outfit really depends on my mood when I wake up. However, this can backfire, when suddenly I'm running late and nothing is looking good. To avoid that, I'll pre-select an assortment of pieces I know I want to wear, so I can mix and match as mood and weather dictate.

SB: What fashion advice would you give to a junior editor going to fashion week for the first time?

CN: Take the weather into consideration! New York weather is unpredictable, so be prepared for rain or shine. You don't want to be the girl sweating in fur and leather when it's unexpectedly 80 degrees out.

SB: Are there any special beauty treatments or regimens you follow in the days leading up to fashion week?

CN: I like to use an exfoliating mask the day before a big event. That way any leftover redness has time to disappear and my skin will feel nice and smooth.

SB: Any fashion week prep secrets you want to share with us?

CN: Well I recently sprained my ankle, so this year I'm prepping with ace bandages and ice packs. I don't want to be hobbling around Lincoln Center in a foot brace!
