Call me a grandma, but I have stayed home every New Year’s Eve for the past five years. Why? Well, I don’t like crowds, I don’t like drunken fools (unless I’m the drunken fool), and why do I need to ring in the New Year with either strangers at a bar or with friends whom I see all the time? I just don’t get it. If I did get it, I’d be at Bergdorf’s right now picking out my dress for the big night, but I’m not. I’m watching Netflix like a proper human being instead.

But the problem with New Year’s Eve is that there’s this horrible pressure to do something – anything – super exciting as a means to ring in the New Year. And believe me, even when I first started staying home I felt that pressure to go out and also a bit lame for staying in, but those days are long gone.

So if you don’t want to go out on NYE this year, then don’t. Here's why staying in isn’t just totally fine, but really awesome.
