To Shop: Tortoise General Store

To Shop: Tortoise General Store(Courtesy of Chika Okazumi)One of the first insights I picked up about living in Los Angeles was the fact that 24/7 standstill traffic and a general dislike of venturing outside of their respective neighborhoods, means SoCal dwellers spend a large chunk of time entertaining at home. To get in on the hosting action, I first had to be certain my home was in guest-ready shape.

To guarantee my humble abode speaks to my less-is-more aesthetic, I take my hard-earned cash to Tortoise General Store on Venice’s "see and be seen" stretch of street, Abbot Kinney Boulevard. What the tiny bungalow of a shop lacks in size, it more than makes up for by way of an expertly curated selection of beautifully-designed and fabulously functional home goods. The minimalistic accents and sleek details are just the thing to tone down my otherwise shabby-chic living room, while the too-cute paper goods and Japanese office supplies keep my stationery collection stocked and my home office in a perpetual state of awesome.
