10. Experiment with different positions and holds
Football, cradle, side-lying... These are all nursing positions you'll get to know quickly after the birth of your baby. Side-lying is especially useful to remember because it often gets skipped by hospital staff because of bed-sharing concerns.

However, I had a lactation consultant come into my home and teach me how to safely side-lie while nursing and it saved me. After struggling with a challenging latch, it relieved a lot of the discomfort and allowed me to get through those first few weeks. Just be warned, it's also the gateway to co-sleeping because who really wants to get out of bed in the middle of the night?! So if you want baby to stay in a bassinet or crib, maybe don't try it out...
