StyleBistro: What are your three Fashion Week must-haves?

Joyann King: My iPhone and iPad so I can edit Bazaar.com's live coverage in between shows. MAC lipstick in Ruby Woo to take me from day to night. It really is the perfect red. My Reed Krakoff Gym Bag in oxblood—it fits everything without breaking my back! And in the color of the season...

StyleBistro: Tell us about your Fashion Week shoes!

JK: I had knee surgery this year, so comfort is key. But I don't want to sacrifice style! I am excited to wear my new Celine black python wedges, but will keep my Valentino Rockstud flats handy for when the days get really long. I will also keep my everyday Isabel Marant Dicker booties on heavy rotation—they are my fashion running shoes!

StyleBistro: How do you pick your outfits for fashion week?

JK: I have dreams that I am the sort of editor that plans her Fashion Month wardrobe in advance, but it never happens. This season I am planning my "look." Chic blouses, both solids and prints, leather separates, tailored jackets and elegant shoes (see Celine purchase above), plus a great pair of sunglasses. I have a big selection on display by my door so I can grab a pair on the way out.

Also my best friend, Kate Ciepluch, just launched a jackets-only collection called Laveer. You can definitely expect to see me in her pieces, they are outfit makers. She gave this amazing custom tweed and leather combo I am dying to wear.

StyleBistro: What fashion advice would you give to a junior editor going to fashion week for the first time?

JK: Mind the weather and your schedule. It is still hot in September so that gorgeous wool coat or fur chubby probably won't be realistic. Also being comfortable is key when you start shows at 9 a.m. and don't wrap until midnight. Anything too tight, too short, or too complicated will drive you crazy all day and you certainly won't look chic tugging at your hem.

StyleBistro: Are there any special beauty treatments or regimens you follow in the days leading up to fashion week?

JK: I always get my hair freshened up—highlights by Kimberly Cannon and cut by Tommy Buckett, both at Marie Robinson. They are the best, my hair would be lost if it weren't for them! If I have time I try to see Christine Chin (aka "Mean Christine") for one of her famed facials. My nails and toes will be painted my latest Essie obsession "Au Naturale" (it's the perfect non-color). Otherwise, I keep it simple and try to relax and soak up as much of summer as I can before the madness starts.
