From ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary paintings, this historic building is home to over 2 million awe-inspiring objects. You could spend an entire day (or three) exploring each of its fascinating exhibits, and the museum offers detailed informational tours on every one of them.

As far as museums go, the MET is the most hailed cultural institution in the entire city. There’s something amazing to discover around every corner, and you’re sure to walk out feeling inspired.

This fashion frenzy marks the launch of that year’s style-focused Costume Institute exhibit that will remain open to the public through September. In 2011, Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty was a standout; the designer’s breathtaking creations were showcased to museum crowds that ended up reaching a total of nearly 700,000 visitors.

The MET’s expansive granite steps are the perfect place to stop and sit on a sunny day, and its 5th Avenue address on the Upper East Side is adjacent to the heart of Central Park. If you’re in the mood to spend time outside, take a quick walk through the park and pay the famed Boathouse restaurant a visit for lunch or dinner.
