Fashion Secrets from Celebrity Stylists: Jessica Paster
With an A-list client roster and a side gig as chief stylist for JustFab, this stylist proves fashion knows no boundaries (or budget).
Jessica Paster has been styling for more than 16 years. Before stylists had their own lines and reality shows, she was working with mega stars such as Cate Blanchett. These days, her client list includes Miranda Kerr and Emily Blunt, and she also serves as chief stylist for affordable e-tailer JustFab. Down to earth and passionate about the industry, Paster is always on the go, especially now that awards season is in full swing.
We caught up with the stylist to find out her go-to outfit, what she stocks her closet with and which trend she can't get enough of.
What is your go-to, no-fail outfit?
"Since I am always on the go and need to be comfortable, my go-to outfit is usually a pair of Azzedine Alaia leggings, an Alexander Wang tee and a Topshop blazer or a Dolce & Gabbana sweater with a pair of Lanvin booties!"
What were your favorite fall trends from the Fall/Winter 2014 season and why?
"My favorite trend for Fall/Winter 2014 is the sort of ethereal, fairytale motif! Valentino, Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana are some of my many favorites this season. I loved the rich colors and delicate fabrics that made the runway look so dreamy."
What closet staple do you buy in multiples and why?
"I think every woman should have Commando and Hue opaque tights in black. Also, an arsenal of great flats—Marc Jacobs and Christian Louboutin are my go-tos!"
What is the best piece of style advice you've ever received?
"'Always use a tailor.' At the beginning of my career, I did a fitting with an actress where nothing fit her. She sat me down and said, 'Dear, next time just bring a tailor and it will change your life.' It actually did!"
Which celebrity look that you styled are you most proud of and why?
"That's like asking which is your favorite child—or puppy in my case! My career has spanned 18 years and there have been a lot of great moments I am proud of. I think working with Cate Blanchett helped grow my eye and my career. I'm also fortunate to have worked with Emily Blunt, who has taught me to have fun with my styling. But truthfully, I learn something from each and every one of my clients and have special moments with all of them—that's why I love this job."
