2017: The #MeToo And #TimesUp Movements Become Catalyst For Change
Though the Me Too movement was first created 10 years ago by activist Tarana Burke, a program director for Brooklyn-based Girls for Gender Equity, actress Alyssa Milano sparked the campaign as we know it today in December 2017.

Milano sent out a call to action on Twitter, requesting that women who had been sexually harassed or assaulted respond to her status with a simple two words: "Me, too." As the magnitude of just how many women have experienced some form of sexual abuse in their lifetime continues to be revealed, the #MeToo, and later #TimesUp in Hollywood, movements have become a catalyst for change — starting with the arrest of one Harvey Weinstein.
