In 2014, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi the Nobel Peace Prize. According to the official statement, the two were awarded the esteemed prize "for their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education." Malala is known for her advocating for female education, even at risk to her own life: In fact, she was shot in the head by Taliban gunmen for daring to fight for girls' right to go to school.
