Country Music's Biggest Scandals

11. Lil Nas X Vs. CMAs
When Lil Nas X first debuted "Old Town Road," Billboard removed it from its country charts because they didn't believe the track was quite country enough. "Upon further review, it was determined that Old Town Road by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard’s country charts," Billboard released in a statement.

That's when Billy Ray Cyrus stepped in to add his voice to the track, and not only did it become one of the most played songs of the year, but both Lil Nas X and Cyrus picked up CMAs for "Musical Event of the Year." But as Vox pointed out, getting one CMA nod was pretty faint praise for Billboard's longest-running No. 1 single ever, which held its number one position for 17 weeks.

Many people still felt that Lil Nas X was snubbed, and the "Musical Event of the Year" award was just a consolation prize.
