Country Music's Biggest Scandals
7.
Beyonce Vs. CMA Fans
In 2016, Beyonce teamed up with the Dixie Chicks at the 50th annual Country Music Association Awards to play her country hit, "Daddy Lessons." But since Beyonce became more politically involved that year — specifically speaking out against police brutality and magnifying the message of Black Lives Matter — some country music fans were displeased with her presence.
“Why are you showing Beyoncé & Dixie Chicks? One doesn’t believe in America & our police force while the other didn’t support our President & veterans during war,” one commenter wrote on Facebook, according to The New York Times.
Others didn't think Bey was "country enough" to be invited on stage — but 2015's collab with Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton didn't get as many angry messages. In the end, the country crowd was polarized, with some loving Beyonce's performance, and others wishing she was never invited.
