Country Music's Biggest Scandals

6. Jennifer Nettles Vs. CMAs
Women have become more and more underrepresented in country radio over the last 10 years, leading some country stars to protest during the CMAs. According to the Annenberg Inclusionist Initiative, women received only 16% of radio airplay from 2014 to 2018, even though there are many talented women with best selling records.

That's why Jennifer Nettles, one half of Sugarland and a successful solo artist in her own right, showed up to the 2019 CMAs wearing a suit with a message. Created by Christian Siriano, the suit came with a cape that had the embroidered phrase "play our records, please and thank you" in the front, and "equal play" in the back.
