Country Music's Biggest Scandals
2.
Dixie Chicks' 9/11 Remarks
Natalie Maines, Martie Erwin Maguire, and Emily Erwin Robison were once chart-topping names that dominated the country sphere. They fell out of favor with country fans in 2003 when, a little over a week after the U.S. invaded Iraq, they announced during a show, "We don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the president of the United States is from Texas." They were immediately blacklisted by their industry.
Since then, they have released one studio album in 2006 called Taking the Long Way. But they're slowly having a comeback. In 2016 they performed with Beyonce at the CMAs, in 2019 they were featured on Taylor Swift's song "Soon You’ll Get Better," and dropped a single called "Gaslighter." In 2020 they dropped their first album in over a decade with the same name.
