Jerrod Niemann Got Flak Because Of A Remix
Not many hardcore country fans like it when country musicians collaborate with singers in different genres, as was evidenced by the push back Jerrod Niemann received when he teamed up with Pitbull for a remix of 2014's "Drink to That All Night."
But Niemann didn't see anything wrong with adding a rap element to a country song. “If rap had never existed, nobody would say anything [about today’s rap-influenced country] because these songs already exist in our past and are classics. People are just looking at it in the wrong way,” Niemann told Rolling Stone, citing Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue” and “One Piece at a Time” as examples of spoken word in country. “The people who are getting real upset maybe just don’t know as much about country music as they think.”
