Country Music's Biggest Scandals

In 2007, Billy Joe Shaver stopped at a bar in Waco, Texas to get a drink, but ended up shooting a man in the face over a disagreement. When Shaver appeared in trial, he claimed he did so out of self defense. Billy Bryant Coker, the man he shot, allegedly came up to Shaver, stirred his drink with a pocket knife, wiped the blade on Shaver's shirt, and told him to come outside. Braced for a fight, Shaver took out his gun and shot.

"I felt he was gonna kill me,” Shaver testified. “He was a big bully, the worst I ever seen — a big bad one. And I been all around the world.” In the end, he was found not guilty.
