See How Jessica Meraz Relates to Her 'Chasing Life' Character
We caught up with April's mysterious half-sister—just in time for the return of the hit ABC series.
You might have mixed feelings about Natalie on Chasing Life, but get ready to see a lot more of her this season. To get you ready for tonight's winter premiere, we caught up with Jessica Meraz, who plays April's tough half-sister and will also soon show off a much more relaxed side—as an inebriated guest-starring story-teller—on Comedy Central's Drunk History. See what the up-and-coming star had to share about her style on and off set.
How can you relate to your character Natalie? “I relate to several parts of Natalie: her feistiness, strengths and sense of humor about life—she doesn’t take herself too seriously, and I can relate to that or at least would like to.”
How would you define your character’s personal style? “Body-conscious [laughs]. I think she is feminine with a little edge.”
How would you describe your personal style? “Feminine and flirty with a little salsa edge.”
If you could shop your character’s closet, what would you have to snag? “This blue leather jacket she wears. I did buy a couple things she wore over the course of the season. She has these little gold heart hoop earrings [$18], and I had to have them. I wear them several times a week; I [even] lost one and went back to American Apparel and bought them again.”
How will Natalie's style evolve this season? “The Bostonian influence. I think she definitely dresses different in Boston than in Miami, weather-wise, and that Boston will bring out more of a darker palette.”
Now let's talk beauty. How does your everyday routine compare to Natalie's? “We both shower everyday.”
What is the one beauty item in your routine you can't live without? “Sunscreen. I come from a family of dermatologists, so I know that’s the number one most important thing every morning. I use Cetaphil [$12], actually."
Tune in to tonight's winter premiere of Chasing Life at 9pm PST on ABC Family.
