10. 1961
Queen Elizabeth's trip to Ghana in 1961 was a pretty momentous one. President Kwame Khrumah had just replaced her as head of state, and he was the target of assignations, so it was clearly a dangerous time for her to visit. Against the advice of her counsel and even the Prime Minister, Queen Elizabeth was determined to go, partially to prove her strength and dedication to being a leader. The trip ended up going very well, and the Queen even danced with President Khrumah at one of the banquets, showing her ability to stay calm and personable.
